Inspired by his travels to Venice, Italy, he envisioned creating a "Venice of America" that would combine elements of art, culture, and recreation. Kinney set out to transform the marshlands into a grand resort destination.

Kinney embarked on an ambitious project, dredging canals and constructing intricate waterways, reminiscent of Venice's famous canals. Alongside the canals, he developed a lively commercial district known as Abbot Kinney Boulevard. The boulevard became the vibrant heart of the community, offering an array of shops, cafes, and entertainment venues.
